Starting today, Thursday, the Corona mask requirement returns in Austria.
Due to the high Corona numbers, the government decided on stricter rules on Wednesday. From Thursday, masks will be compulsory indoors throughout Austria.
In addition, Corona-infected people can go back to work and go shopping without free testing after five days – if they have been symptom-free for 48 hours and wear a mask. In their private lives, they should avoid visiting “vulnerable settings,“ restaurants, and significant events, and also wear masks.
The quarantine recommendation by Health Minister Johannes Rauch goes further than expected: it affects individual occupational groups such as the health professions and all workers in general. They can also “take the day off” after five days. If the result is negative or the CT value is above 30, the “traffic restrictions” for private life and the obligation to wear a mask do not apply.
Given the recent extremely high infection figures, Health Minister Johannes Rauch has again implemented the general indoor mask obligation. Since the significant relaxation steps on 5 March, it only existed in public transport and primary care shops. Only Vienna retained the FFP2 obligation and 2G for gastronomy and night catering.
Special regulations for night catering in the federal provinces
There is now a special regulation for night gastronomy and events with 100 or more people without fixed seating in the other federal provinces: their operators can choose whether to require a mask or a 3G certificate. Neither mask nor 3G is required for indoor gatherings of less than 100 people, in private living quarters, at the administration point in the catering industry, or for rehearsals and artistic performances in fixed composition. The new rules apply at least until 16 April.
