The energy vouchers are now being sent to Austria’s households. This should cushion the sharp rise in electricity costs. How and where can you redeem the energy bonus worth 150 euros? We have all the information at a glance.
When will the energy voucher be sent out?
The first energy cost vouchers will be sent out from April 2022. The mailing to all primary residences should be completed by May 2022. So you should receive the energy voucher in the next few weeks.
How and where can I redeem the energy voucher?
You can redeem the energy voucher online or by mail.
You can redeem the voucher online at www.energiekostenausgleich.gv.at. You must enter your voucher number and verification number (on your voucher) and fill out a form with your data.
Would you like to return the completed voucher by mail? Then use the enclosed pre-paid reply envelope.
Who may redeem the energy voucher?
The energy voucher is subject to certain conditions. You may redeem the voucher if you meet specific criteria:
Income limit
As a single-person household, you may not earn more than 5,670 euros gross per month. For a multi-person household, the income limit is 11,340 gross per month.
Electricity supplier
You must have a contract with an electricity supplier, and the contract must be in your name. Good to know: The energy voucher can only be redeemed on the electricity bill – not for gas or district heating.
Main residence
The energy voucher is only valid for your primary residence – not for secondary homes or other addresses. You can redeem the voucher for the address you registered as your primary residence from March 15 to June 30, 2022.
When and how is the energy bonus paid out?
Your electricity supplier is automatically informed via a data interface that the voucher has been redeemed. The 150 euros will automatically be deducted from your next annual or final bill.
Have you only recently received your annual statement?
Then the electricity provider will only redeem the 150 euros on your next annual or final bill. There must be two weeks between redeeming the voucher and your last annual statement.
You have two contracts for your electricity connection – with the electricity supplier and the network operator?
The electricity supply contract is relevant for the energy cost settlement. You can only redeem the voucher on the electricity bill from your electricity supplier, not on the statement from the network operator.
Have you recently changed your electricity supplier?
The voucher will be taken into account for the electricity supplier for which a valid electricity supply contract for the respective metering point designation existed at the time of redemption.

When can I redeem the energy cost voucher?
The energy cost compensation in the form of the 150 euro voucher can be applied until October 31, 2022. No vouchers will be accepted after this date.
I have not received an energy voucher – what can I do?
You can request a new voucher by August 31, 2022, online at www.oesterreich.gv.at/energiekostenausgleich or by phone at 050 233 798.
