In the last 24 hours, Austria had 8,475 new coronavirus infections and 11 deaths. Most of the illnesses were reported in Vienna on Wednesday.
The number of hospital patients with corona infection continues to decline. On Wednesday, 1,464 people were hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection. That’s down 83 from the day before. The number has decreased by 255 patients in one week or 14.8 percent. Intensive care was required for 79 Corona-positive patients. This number fell by seven since yesterday and has been reduced by 22 patients in one week.
Decrease in hospital patients, but eleven covid deaths
As of Wednesday, there was also a change in the recording of Corona patients. Vienna is also reporting SARS-CoV-2-infected hospital patients who are not being treated primarily for Covid-19. However, this will not be reflected on the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Health dashboard until Thursday. Currently, the statistics combine all patients with a Corona infection, whether they were hospitalized for Covid-19 or other illnesses.
Even though the number of hospital patients is decreasing, eleven deaths related to Corona have occurred since Tuesday. In the past seven days, 100 people with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 19,151 lives in Austria since the outbreak. According to AGES figures released Tuesday, as many as 20,390 deaths have been recorded.

Despite continued low testing, 8,475 new infections were recorded within 24 hours. This is above the average of 6,752 new cases over the past seven days. The number of people actively infected decreased by 2,331 to 94,224. The test count continues declining, but the positive rate remains unchanged. Currently, 12.2 percent of PCR tests are positive, down from nine percent the day before. In the past 24 hours, 73,613 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported. Of those, 69,710 were conclusive PCR tests.
