In September, Apple will unveil the 14th generation of its successful iPhone smartphone – according to rumors, four different models. According to previous rumors, the Pro models will stand out more from the standard iPhone. In addition to technical innovations, Apple fans expect a nasty surprise: higher prices.

iPhones are already luxury goods: the 256-gigabyte version of the iPhone 13 Pro costs around 1250 euros, according to an online price comparison. If it’s up to the well-informed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from the investment house TF International Securities in Taiwan, the next generation could be even more expensive. He predicts a price increase of up to 15 percent for the Pro models of the iPhone 14 generation.

He refers to the surprisingly high profits of the contract manufacturer Foxconn. This company is responsible for 60 to 70 percent of iPhone production and has increased its financial forecasts to “growing.”

Apple is growing against the market trend – When the new iPhones come onto the market in the fall amid inflationary pressure and horrendous energy costs, it will become clear whether Apple customers are willing to pay even higher prices. However, Apple does not seem worried about this, analyzing Heise.de. Even in the last quarter of the year, Apple still managed growth with its iPhones in a shrinking market.

According to rumors, Apple should at least partially compensate for the rising prices with more generous storage. According to Macrumors, the Pro models of the iPhone 14 will be equipped with twice as much memory as last year. Accordingly, the entry-level model should now have 256 gigabytes of storage instead of 128 gigabytes.

The newest processor only in the Pro model – Bigger innovations under the hood are also reserved for the Pro models. Apple’s latest smartphone processor, A16, will probably only be installed in the more expensive models, which will also be equipped with new OLED displays, including an Always-On function and a smaller notch (or holes) for the front camera. They will also get a new 48-megapixel camera.

iPhone Mini will probably be discontinued – In the standard models, which will likely continue to be equipped with Apple’s A15 processor, Apple experts predict that a large “Max” model will replace the iPhone Mini with a 6.7-inch (approx. 17-centimeter) diagonal. In addition to the new iPhone generation, a new generation of the Apple Watch is also expected at Apple’s September event – including a particularly robust professional model for outdoor fans.
