Currently, there is an increase in scams and fraud attempts under the well-known deception plot “daughter trick request for money transfers.”
A 57-year-old woman from Graz fell for scammers on November 28. An SMS with a new number. The sender would supposedly be the woman’s daughter. The wording:” I have a new number. Please contact me”.
In the conversation, unknown persons demanded a cash transfer to a Lithuanian account. The 57-year-old did so.
A day later, the scammers demanded the woman’s credit cards. She then filed a complaint. The damage amounts to more than a thousand euros.
One day later, on November 29, unknown perpetrators contacted a 64-year-old woman from Graz. Also, a text message with a new number. The sender is also allegedly the daughter of the woman.
The wording: “My cell phone display is broken. Please get in touch via WhatsApp.” The woman did so. Again, in the course of communication, there were demands for money.
“Two bills need to be paid urgently. With the broken cell phone, this is impossible”. The 64-year-old transferred several thousand euros to a German account.
Shortly after that, there were further demands for money. The woman filed a complaint.
