Authorities report 5,107 new Corona infections on Friday

Daily Corona numbers continue to rise by hundreds of cases compared to the previous week. On Friday, authorities report 5,107 new infections.

Numerous experts are already calling for people to wear masks, keep their distance, and rewash their hands. The reason is that the corona numbers in Austria have been rising for days. And drastically, compared to the previous week, there are daily increases of several hundred cases. Will Friday change that? In the most recent 24 hours, the country’s health authorities reported 5,107 new corona infections, compared to 4,136 on Friday of the previous week.

Monday of the current week starts with an increase at 2,814 cases, Tuesday brought 4,428 new virus cases, and Wednesday even saw 6,385 new Corona infections in just 24 hours. Corona case numbers also remained high on Thursday, with state health officials reporting 5,092 new viral cases. This Friday also adds nine virus deaths and 2,941 Corona recoveries.

Hospitals are treating 943 Corona patients in normal wards (an increase of 41 people compared to the previous day) and 57 Corona patients in intensive care units (- 1). The statistics show that case numbers now appear to be jumping higher than in previous weeks.

The past week started on Monday with 2,309 new Corona cases. Since Tuesday with 4,311, 5,518, and 4,619 new infections, a daily increase of several hundred positive test results each was registered again in the weekly comparison. On Friday, there was a slight decrease to 4,136 positive test results; this was more or less balanced on Saturday, with 4,118 new virus infections. On Sunday, there was a slight increase, with 3,316 virus cases.

By the way, Austria’s neighboring country Italy is now getting serious about Corona. On December 1, 2022, a significant penalty action will start affecting almost two million unvaccinated people. Specifically, this involves around 1.9 million unvaccinated citizens over 50 and staff in occupational groups with close physical contact, such as security guards, teachers, and paramedics. Anyone who cannot explain why they have not been vaccinated three times will pay a fine of 100 euros with immediate effect.
