Monday marks the official launch of the Vienna Energy Bonus. Households can apply for a subsidy of 200 euros.
With this measure, the City of Vienna wants to help citizens of the federal capital in the face of increased energy prices and living costs, in addition to the subsidies provided by the federal government.
These households can apply for the 200-euro bonus
The plan is to provide financial support of 200 euros per Viennese household. Single-person households with a gross annual income of 40,000 euros or multi-person households with a gross yearly income of 100,000 euros are eligible. Of the approximately one million households in Vienna, about 650,000 are eligible, according to City Hall. That is two-thirds of all Viennese households. The total volume amounts to 130 million euros.
“Soft start” for Viennese households in Favoriten and Donaustadt
Immediately after the announcement of the measure last Monday, a so-called “soft start” was made during the week to eliminate any sources of error in live operation in good time. The 200,000 households in the districts of Favoriten and Donaustadt have already received letters with a password that is required for the online application. The first has already applied, and 30 people already have the money in the account, the office of Social City Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) told the APA on Sunday. However, it is also possible to apply by telephone.
Letters with passwords for the application of the Vienna energy bonus
The official start of the action now takes place on Monday and Tuesday. On these two days, around 200,000 households in districts one to seven will receive their letters with passwords. In concrete terms, 400,000 households could already apply for their energy bonus at the beginning of next week, provided the requirements are met. In three tranches, another 200,000 households will receive their letters with passwords on December 9/10, December 13/14, and December 15/16.

For better classification, all Viennese can check whether they meet the requirements for the energy bonus. This week alone, 25,600 people have already used the online assistant to check their income requirements. The online application is immediately processed automatically. The energy bonus should then be in the account within a few days.
