The Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail is celebrating a comeback after the Corona break. It will take place for the first time in two years.
This was announced by the organizer, Stadt Wien Marketing, on Thursday. It is the 31st edition of the significant event, for which Vienna City will again be transformed into a party mile. The party is free of charge – at a total of six locations.

City Hall Square is not available this year.
This year, the eponymous path stretches around 1.5 kilometres and runs from the Freyung via Am Hof square, the Graben, Stephansplatz and Kärntner Straße to the recently redesigned Neuer Markt. Only the Rathausplatz is not available this year.

Also promised is a more than 70-hour stage program, ranging from pop to waltz. This will start at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and continue until 2 a.m. Numerous gastro stalls along the path will provide food and drink from 11:00 a.m. on December 31. Also, an extensive child program was announced.

This year, however, fireworks are renounced – for the sake of humans, animals and the environment, as it was called. The pyrotechnics spectacle was part of the New Year’s Eve Trail for the first time in 2012. In 2019, it had to be cancelled due to strong winds.

Mayor Ludwig pleased about the comeback
Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) was pleased about the return. He said he wanted to invite all Viennese and guests to “start the new year peacefully, atmospherically and exuberantly at the Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail.” Peter Hanke (SPÖ), City Councillor for Economic Affairs, also emphasized that the end of the year in Vienna is a highlight for many tourists.
