The Corona situation in Austria remained stable on Friday ahead of the Christmas holidays. According to AGES, four thousand six hundred six new infections were reported the previous day. This is in line with the weekly average of 4,666 positive tests daily. 1,194 SARS-CoV-2-infected people were in the hospital Friday morning, down 53 from Thursday but up 17 week-over-week. Sixty-one covid sufferers were in intensive care, the same number as 24 hours ago.
In this week’s preview, the Covid forecasting consortium’s model calculators expected a steady situation in hospitals and new infections over the next 14 days. However, the update said Wednesday that the actual reported numbers could be subject to irregularities due to the holiday.
Twelve deaths have been added since Thursday, with 54 Corona victims within the past seven days. In total, the pandemic has claimed 21,360 lives in Austria so far. As of Friday, there were 52,426 laboratory-confirmed active cases.
Four thousand three hundred forty-five vaccinations were administered Thursday. Of these, 3,990 were booster vaccinations two days before Christmas after the three-part basic immunization. A total of 1,601,809 people have received such a booster so far.
