Top virologists like Christian Drosten declare the Corona pandemic over. Vienna, however, continues to insist on the unpopular mask requirement in public transport.
“We are experiencing the first endemic wave with SARS-CoV-2 this winter; in my estimation, this means the pandemic is over,” virologist Drosten said. Other researchers are also declaring the Corona pandemic over.

In Vienna, only a few covid protective measures are still in place. But even these are now being criticized, with the FPÖ calling for the repeal of all Corona rules. “It’s time for the mayor and the city councillor for health to realize that they are on the finally – now lonely – wrong track,” says Vienna FPÖ chairman Dominik Nepp.

But because of the many cases of illness and the high risk of infection, the city of Vienna continues to adhere to the measures. “We would like to look at this winter season as does the federal government, after all. That’s why both ordinances go until the end of February,” says in this regard from the office of Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SP). “Relaxations we would always consult with our experts beforehand.”

Positively tested persons must therefore continue to wear an FFP2 mask outside their homes, in kindergartens, schools, homes, nursing and care facilities. The mask obligation applies to all in public transport, pharmacies, and the health sector. Visitors to hospitals must first be tested for Corona. Those who test positive are not allowed to enter the facilities.
