The pandemic is not over yet in Vienna’s public transport system: everyone has to wear an FFP2 mask. But this could now soon be an end.
Health Minister Johannes Rauch wants to abolish all Corona laws, which has implications for Vienna. The current COVID regulation is valid in Vienna until February 28, 2023. By this time, experts will evaluate how to proceed with the mask requirement in public transport, pharmacies and healthcare facilities, according to the office of Health City Councilor Peter Hacker. As it looks, the mask obligation could fall in the spring, at least in the Viennese Öffis.
Of course, nobody wants to commit itself at present still to a definite date. But the goal is to “return to normality in 2023,” Hacker said recently. Currently, in addition to the mask requirement in health and care facilities, there is also a testing requirement. There are five antigens and five PCR tests per resident per month, free of charge. However, this will also end with the fall of the Covid laws.
