Back in 2022, the federal capital of Vienna paid out an energy bonus to Viennese households in an uncomplicated and quick way. Now, this is going into the second round. According to the city government, the Vienna Energy Bonus 2023 is intended to cushion the increased energy costs. And again, the payout is designed to be quite quick and unbureaucratic. 585,800 Viennese households have benefited from the Vienna Energy Bonus ’22 in recent months. Those of them whose income and circumstances have not changed in the meantime will automatically receive the new bonus.

Those who already got the energy bonus in 2022 receive the 200 euros of the energy bonus 23 booked in April on the account. All those Viennese households that have not yet applied for or received an energy bonus can still easily apply for it for 2022. “If you apply by 25.3. and everything fits, then you also receive the 23 bonus automatically,” explains Mario Dujakovic, media spokesman for SPÖ city councillor Peter Hacker. But, “If you do it between 3/26 and 3/31/23, then you must make two applications.”

With the deadline of April 1, 2023, it then only goes with the energy bonus 23. “From here on, around 1 million letters will again be sent to all Viennese in tranches. If you get the Energy Bonus 23 automatically, it will also say the same inside. If your household constellation has changed, or you have not yet applied for the Energy Bonus 22, then you will receive a letter with a personalized password to be able to apply for the Energy Bonus 23 online,” says Dujakovic. From April 11, the transfers to the previous recipients will then begin.

Another important date is April 17, 2023: From that day on, all those Viennese households that have not yet been automatically taken into account or have not received the Energy Bonus 22 and have not applied for it will then be able to use it. They, too, should have their 200 euros in their account within a few days. However, only if the requirements are met: Single-person households with an annual income of fewer than 40,000 euros and multi-person households with less than 100,000 euros are eligible for the bonus.
