Ever since the Pro model of the iPhone has had three camera modules, the focal lengths have been clear: on the back of Apple’s smartphones, there is an ultra-wide angle lens, a normal focal length and a telephoto lens. If the leaker Revegnus has his way, that could change, at least partially.
According to him, the telephoto lens will be renewed, using the same sensor as the iPhone 14 but offering a variable zoom. It remains unclear what range the optics could cover. However, the optical zoom should be significantly larger than before. Those who want to get closer to the subject to be photographed currently have to rely on digital zoom – significantly reducing photo quality.
Unusual
As “Tom’s Guide” points out, zoom lenses use moving components. This makes it possible to use multiple focal lengths with a single lens. Most manufacturers rely on a zoom with the help of additional lenses instead. This also saves space and allows for maintaining the highest possible image quality.
As with all leaks about the iPhone and other Apple products, this announcement from Revegnus has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Even if Apple is considering a corresponding feature, the plan can change again until the release in the fall. Usually, new smartphones are presented in September. Among other things, it is also expected that the new generation can be charged via USB-C.
