Today, Monday, May 1, 2023, not only does the traditional May Day march of the SPÖ causes closures in Vienna’s city center, but also numerous other demos lead to traffic disruptions.
Already from presumably 07:45, the Wiener Ring between Urania and University will be closed due to the May Day marches. Afterward, it will be impassable between Stadiongasse and the University from about 10:00 to 13:00. In the morning, short stops are possible in many districts on the main routes towards the city center. For example: Döblinger Hauptstraße, Gentzgasse, Währinger Straße, Nußdorfer Straße, Thaliastraße, Lerchenfelder Straße, Praterstraße, Untere Augartenstraße, Jägerstraße, Obere Augartenstraße, Josefstädter Straße.

Demos and May Day marches cause traffic jams in Vienna
Access to the Prater will cause delays in the afternoon due to the May Day festival. There will be a lot going on around the Praterstern. ÖAMTC tip: Use the U1 and U2.

Further demonstrations and closures on May 1 in Vienna
Due to a demo “Against the Reset,” Wiener Ring and Franz-Josefs-Kai will be impassable in sections from about 14:30 until probably 18:00. Traffic jams will occur on both sides of the Danube Canal, on the Zweierlinie and all access roads to the city center and the Prater. The demonstrations “Stand up against child abuse” and “Alternative May Day” will lead to stops in Vienna-Mariahilf, Vienna-Neubau, and Vienna-Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus starting at noon.

The ÖAMTC experts recommend using the subways.
