Although the coming days will be pleasantly warm in large parts of the country, weather experts warn, at the same time, however, of “powerful” thunderstorms.
At the beginning of the new week, only slight pressure contrasts dominate in the Alpine region, and temperatures remain at an early summer level. However, due to the humid air masses, the tendency for showers and thunderstorms in the mountains increases somewhat. With the arrival of a front from the northwest, it will become much more unsettled on Tuesday with partly heavy thunderstorms. On Wednesday, the unsettled weather will continue for the most part—the weather outlook from UWZ man Martin Templin in detail.
On Monday, the sun will shine frequently after the dissipation of local residual clouds. From noon on, local showers or thunderstorms will develop over the mountains; away from the Alps, the day will end mostly friendly and dry. Only towards Lake Constance and Außerfern will be thundery in the evening. The wind plays no role apart from thunderstorms. With 21 to 28 degrees, it will remain warm.
However, Tuesday will start in the inner Alps and the east and south, still dry and often sunny, from Lake Constance to the Innviertel, with sometimes thundery showers. These will spread over large parts of the country by noon, with heavy thunderstorms in places. In the west, the batteries will become persistent rain in some areas; the most extended dry spells will be in the south. From northwest to southeast, highs will range between 19 and 26 degrees.
On Wednesday, dense clouds with some rain will persist from Bregenzerwald to Mariazellerland. In the south, too, showers will frequently fall after an occasionally friendly morning; locally, there will also be thunderstorms with heavy rain. The most sunny areas will be in the eastern lowlands, especially in the Weinviertel, where the sun will shine frequently from morning onwards. The wind will blow moderately from west to northwest, and 17 to 24 degrees will be reached depending on the sun.
Thursday will start with showers, especially in the mountains and the south. From the northeast, however, it will loosen up during the day, and a nice sun-cloud mix will set in. Until the evening, it will remain unsettled with isolated showers from Vorarlberg to Upper Carinthia. With moderate winds from northerly directions, temperatures will reach 14 to 24 degrees from west to east.
