According to Netflix, Netflix subscribers who share their accounts with people outside their households will not be blocked. The company tells Golem. Subscribers would not face termination or “any other form of consequence.”
Account holders must set a “Netflix household.” This can be done via the app, the smart TV or an external streaming device. If this is not done, Netflix will automatically set the household based on the devices and their IP addresses used to access Netflix.
If a person accesses the account from another household, new measures against account sharing occur. In that case, a notice appears in the app stating that streaming is impossible.
The person is informed that a separate account can be concluded, or a sub-account can be set up for the shared subscription at an additional 4.99 euros per month. However, the service provider assures that no one will be blocked without notice.
The mobile device when travelling
All devices in the household that use the same Internet access are counted as part of the Netflix household. However, those who travel can also log in to their account to a smart TV at the resort or use their mobile device. In this case, there will be “no convenience restrictions,” according to Netflix.
