Almost 500,000 children and young people in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland start their nine-week summer vacations today, Friday, after distributing school reports. For the approximately 660,000 students in the other federal states, the vacation will not begin until a week later. School starts again on September 4 in the east and September 11 in the west. More than 30,000 students have attended summer school in the last two weeks, effectively bringing forward the start of school.
With the start of the vacations in eastern Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, summer travel traffic on the transit routes also gets underway. However, the ÖAMTC says it does not expect significant traffic jams until the end of school in western and southern Austria next week. However, according to the motorists’ club, important events such as the Formula 1 race in Spielberg on the first vacation weekend will lead to regionally heavy traffic on the roads. The peak of the travel wave is expected at the end of July or the beginning of August, when the vacations in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg begin.
