Maybe you don’t know it yet, but it’s possible to read a message from WhatsApp without sending a receipt to the person you’re talking to. We’ll explain how with three clever methods.

Are you also one of those who do not open a message they just received on WhatsApp (which always requires essential updates) just because you do not want to show your interlocutor that you are online? To put your mind at ease, know that you are not alone in this situation. Better yet, some solutions on the Messenger app will let you know about the content of a conversation without anyone noticing. We’ll explain it to you.

Change the settings of the application.
So, there are several methods to read the entire content of a message received via WhatsApp (whose users, by the way, have switched to Facebook in droves). The first option is to change the app’s settings. Because, surprise, surprise: the app (also often used for scams) allows you to turn off the receipt confirmations directly.

Here’s how: Go to the “Settings” section, then to the “Privacy” section. You should find the “Read receipts” item when you get to that page, which you need to uncheck. And that’s it!

One small note, though: the change works both ways. If you uncheck the receipt of your sent messages, the messages of others will not be displayed anymore. And you won’t be able to tell if someone has read your notice.

Use airplane mode
If you put your phone in airplane mode when you open WhatsApp, you can generally read your received messages. Still, the application will no longer have the necessary connection to send confirmations to your conversation partner. It’s as simple as that. But be careful: the blue checkmarks will appear as soon as you have an internet connection again.

Reading messages in the notifications
On Android and iOS, most smartphones offer a widget (i.e., a minor feature integrated into an operating system) that lets you see an overview of messages you’ve received without opening the corresponding app – no matter which one it is.

In some versions, a long click on the message notification is enough for the widget in question to allow you to view the entire message without opening the application.
