A surprising number of people have not received their Klimabonus voucher in person at the post office. What will happen to the returned vouchers now?
When the increased climate bonus was announced last year, many people were rightly delighted.
In an extensive payout campaign, on the one hand, direct transfers of the amount were made to the account officially deposited with Finanz-Online. On the other hand, a Sodexo voucher was sent by RSa letter, which could be redeemed at all partner companies or exchanged for cash at the bank partner. Also, the payment has been in full swing this year since the beginning of autumn.
Was the climate bonus not collected?
According to a report in the “Standard,” almost 100,000 items were not picked up in person in 2022. The exact number is 97,709, which adds up to several million euros that did not reach the recipient. There are probably many reasons for this: forgetting, longer vacations, illness, lack of notification, etc. The list is long, and we probably know why. The list is long, and we all know it.
But what happens to the climate bonus returns from Sodexo? In other words, what happens to the vouchers if they have not been collected?
Don’t panic. Payment continues until spring.
This year, the payment of the climate bonus will be staggered and can last until spring. Don’t panic if you haven’t received a transfer or a letter yet; it could still take a while. According to the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, the payment in spring 2024 mainly affects people who only registered their primary residence in Austria in the first half of 2023 or who have moved.
Reversal of the Sodexo voucher
According to a spokesperson for the Climate Ministry, the vouchers still being collected at that time will be reversed via Austrian Post for capacity reasons, as reported by “Standard.” They would check all shipments and change the vouchers to Sodexo: “All steps are carried out and documented under strict safety precautions,” a spokeswoman for the Climate Ministry says in “Standard.” In addition, all those who could not pick up their vouchers due to illness now receive a remittance.
What happens to the money that has not been paid out?
The people affected by this originally received the voucher because the BMK does not have their account details. However, this had already been able to resolve many cases at the service center and agree on an individual solution with people who could not collect the voucher, for example, due to illness. The payment for these cases is already in preparation and will occur at the end of November.
