The new vignettes for 2024 will become effective on December 1, 2023. However, there is a trap you could fall into in addition to innovations.
On December 1, 2023, the new vignette year begins; this also marks the start of validity for the new adhesive vignette in sunny yellow and the digital vignette in 2024. In addition to the colour of the vignette, there are a few new additions this year.
“The 1-day vignette is new for the first time. Like the 10-day vignette, it is now valid immediately after purchase when bought online,” says Asfinag Managing Director Claudia Eder. An annual vignette is valid for a maximum of 14 months, so the 2024 vignette allows the holder to drive on motorways and expressways until January 31, 2025.
“Seven out of ten annual vignettes are already digital, and the benefits have already won over many of our customers,” says Eder. But there is also a trap lurking here: the 2024 digital annual vignette is available in a few simple steps in the Asfinag toll store and via the Asfinag app. Important: Customers must observe the consumer protection period for online purchases.
Customers can withdraw from an online purchase of a product or service under the European Consumer Protection Directive, so the digital vignette is only valid for 18 days after the purchase. For entrepreneurs, on the other hand, the digital vignette is valid immediately.
The 1-day vignette for cars will be available for €8.60 and for motorcycles for €3.40. The price of the 10-day vignette, which is mainly used by holidaymakers, will be adjusted slightly from 9.90 euros to 11.50 euros. The price of the 2-month vignette will fall from 29 to 28.90 euros due to the new statutory price scale.
The price of the annual vignette remains unchanged at 96.40 euros. The price scale and the actual introduction of the 1-day vignette are based on the implementation of the requirements of the EU Road Pricing Directive.
