Austria’s salary will rise noticeably in the coming year. This is partly because new collective wage agreements have already been reached in many sectors (average increase: around 9 percent) and partly because the government is finally eliminating the “cold progression” pay rise, i.e., a slide to the next salary level when you receive a pay rise.
But the government has also decided on a series of new burdens, for example, increasing the climate tax and introducing a new ORF household tax.
The higher net salaries could provide some relief from all these expenses. “The Austrian federal government has taken targeted measures to strengthen purchasing power and cushion inflation. One of the most important structural measures is the abolition of cold progression,” said VP Finance Minister Magnus Brunner on Saturday. Because the salary guzzler is being buried, the following new net salaries will result for Austrians:
