The Filipino chaplaincy in Vienna and the Kapunungan sa mga Bisaya sa Austria will again celebrate the traditional Sinulog Festival on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Filipino Catholic Chaplaincy church in Vienna’s 10th district.
9 days A Novena in honour of Sto. Nino (Child Jesus) is currently taking place in preparation for the big feast.
The Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival, or Sinulog for short, is an annual cultural and religious festival held in the Philippines to celebrate the Santo Niño, or Child Jesus. Traditionally held on the third Sunday of January, Sinulog is one of the year’s most anticipated holidays.
Every year, the Filipino community in Austria celebrates Sinulog with great enthusiasm. Large masses are celebrated yearly, and elaborate displays and reenactments of the customary dances and customs from Cebu accompany the celebration.
It is understandable that this annual celebration honours the religion and camaraderie of the community. Without a doubt, this annual celebration continues to strengthen the Austrian-Filipino community.
