“Twist!” brings the 1960s to the stage at the Metropol in Hernals from February 14. V
Everything turns, everything moves – with “Twist!”, the Metropol invites its audience on an irresistible journey back to the 1960s. Under the expert musical direction of Valentin Oman, the pulsating rhythms and catchy melodies of this era are perfectly captured. Vincent Bueno and Dagmar Bernhard are among those on stage.
Musical with twist dance
At the turn of the 50s and 60s, what would later be called lifestyle was already being discovered. Whether it was clothes or hairstyles, fashionable dances, or party games, the life-hungry post-war generation found out what was “the latest thing” from the magazines. The story of Twist, the name of the hottest fashion dance of 1961/62, which was historically the first to do without physical contact, is also set in the world of a magazine editorial office.
“Twist!” is also the glossy magazine title, where a busy editor-in-chief runs the show. She is embroiled in constant squabbles with the director of the publishing house, who, to make matters worse, is also her ex-husband and would rather shut down the moderately successful magazine today than tomorrow. Then, an editor with a talent for dancing has an idea that could possibly save the day. He hopes that by competing in a large contest, he will be able to elevate the dance magazine’s standing and, as a result, circulation. But the dancing star-to-be has made his calculations without his dance partner.
The musical, with a twist, features Austro-Filipino Vincent Bueno as Silvio. At the new Metropol Musical premiere on February 14, 2024, Vincent, who plays the editor of “TWIST!” magazine, ensured an evening full of enthusiasm and dancing joy with a rousing performance. Under the direction of Peter Kratochvil, not only the captivating story of the musical but the pulsating rhythms and unique atmosphere of the swinging 1960s were brought to life.
