Easy to eat and known for its health benefits, the banana is a staple in many diets. But did you know there’s an optimal time of day to consume them?
At snack time, whether during morning break or after school in the afternoon, bananas are one of the most consumed and favorite fruits among children. The popularity of this yellow fruit among consumers is mainly due to its nutritional value.
Rich in potassium, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and also an excellent source of soft fibers, bananas are good for health. They also regulate digestion and promote a feeling of satiety.
Given all these benefits, some people do not hesitate to eat them first thing in the morning for breakfast, which is considered the most important meal of the day.
However, this may not be the best option. Why? Because of its high sugar content, which provides a wake-up boost rather than offering energy throughout the day. It’s also an acidic fruit that releases acidifying agents in the body after consumption, which can interfere with digestion.
Another disadvantage is the significant carbohydrate content in the fruit, 25%, which can lead to a rise in blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is recommended to consume it with something else if you want to eat it for breakfast. But if you want to eat them on their own, what is the best time of day?
In an interview with Financial Express, Dr. Santosh Pandey, a naturopath and acupuncturist in Bombay, India, explained that it is preferable to consume this fruit in the evening.
“Bananas can be safely consumed at any time of the day. However, our body metabolism is at its lowest at night,” he informs. The expert explains that “eating bananas in the evening can regulate the sleep cycle.”
How? Thanks to an amino acid called tryptophan. Essential for the body, it “helps the body produce serotonin, a brain chemical that regulates sleep.” A good reason to prioritize the consumption of this fruit at dinnertime.
