Do you know iOS like the back of your hand and are familiar with all the iPhone operating system’s tips, tricks, and hacks? But there’s one secret Apple app that even some experts don’t know about. We’ll tell you what it is and what it’s actually good for.

Somewhat hidden: alternative code scanner in the iPhone
If you have iOS 14, iOS 15 or even iOS 16 installed on your iPhone, you can now go on a search. You can now search for a secret app that Apple has hidden in the system. And how do we find it?

・First, we open the search screen on the iPhone. Simply swipe down with your finger on the home screen to do this.
・Now, tap on the result, i.e., the app itself, and the application opens.

Now, we have a genuine QR code scanner in front of us, with which we can scan “Quick Response Codes.” We can switch on the iPhone’s rear LED in poor lighting conditions and illuminate the surroundings accordingly. Unlike the QR scanner within the iPhone’s camera app, however, no new window is opened in Safari; instead, a separate in-app browser is launched that deletes the search result when the app is closed.

Even better: How to do it much faster
Important to know: Unfortunately, we cannot place the code scanner app as an icon on the home screen. We can’t delete it either.

So, the app remains hidden. However, another way to call it up is one that works much faster. Instead of typing in the name of the code scanner each time, we can access the exact same function via the control center – accessible with a short swipe upwards. To do this, tap the small code scanner symbol at the location.
We suspect that the secret app in question is nothing more or less than the function in the control center. The option to call it up via the search is, therefore, still a remnant but quite pointless. Still, it’s interesting to see what you keep finding.
