The #wienliebe event will take place for the first time from 24 to 26 May 2024. It will introduce its audience to the cultural, cuisine, and arts and crafts elements that make Vienna liveable and lovable. The festival by Vienna for Vienna embodies enjoyment, conviviality, and coziness. For 3 days, residents and visitors are invited to discover life’s many pleasures in the federal capital in one place.

Viennese cuisine, coffee houses, wine taverns and drinking culture are celebrated. Culturally, there are several renowned representatives of Viennese music as well as other program items that are “typically Viennese.” In cooperation with the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, several Viennese businesses will also present their handicrafts, and food producers will present a market for goods from Vienna.

The festival will be opened on May 24 at 2 pm by Mayor Michael Ludwig and Vienna Chamber of Commerce President Walter Ruck.

Mayor Michael Ludwig: “Vienna is the most liveable and, dare I say it, the most lovable city in the world. There are many reasons for this. But what cannot be measured in studies is our great passion for culture, our sense of first-class cuisine, and the work of the many businesses that enrich the city with their crafts and food and make a significant contribution to the way of life in Vienna. It is a particular pleasure for me to present #wienliebe, a new event created by Vienna for Vienna, which invites all Viennese to get to know their city anew or discover it differently.”

Vienna Chamber of Commerce President Walter Ruck: “Living, working and spending leisure time—all within a short distance. This cannot be taken for granted and is the essence of our beautiful city. Culture, cuisine, and many other companies contribute to our high quality of life and the unique flair of Vienna. This is exactly what we want to showcase with #wienliebe. I am delighted that we have organised a joint showcase of the Viennese way of life on Rathausplatz for the first time, which will inspire both the Viennese and our guests.”

Culinary delights on the Rathausplatz
6 well-known, traditional, and long-established restaurateurs will treat visitors to delicious delicacies from Viennese cuisine. For example, the traditional Viennese restaurant Zum Schwarzen Kameel will have numerous Viennese classics. Plachutta will prepare “the most famous Tafelspitz in the world” at #wienliebe. The Schweizerhaus in Prater, one of Vienna’s most popular restaurants, will serve the popular Stelze with Krügerl. Bitzinger, Vienna’s traditional sausage stand, will be represented next to the Albertina. Because the Heurigen culture should not be missed, a Viennese Heuriger will offer a buffet with cold dishes such as sandwiches, filled rolls, various platters, and savory dumplings. Those who prefer to savor sweet temptations will get their money’s worth at Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker.

In addition to the wide selection of freshly prepared dishes, guests can look forward to first-class, freshly tapped beers from the federal capital at Ottakringer and Wiener Bier directly in front of the town hall.

The event will also include the festive presentation of the Vienna Wine Award, honoring the city’s best wines since 2005. The winning wines and over 80 other first-class wines can be tasted directly on-site at the Vienna Wine Award Bar.

Guests can enjoy exquisite music from Vienna on the large stage in front of City Hall. The cultural program at #wienliebe ranges from traditional to modern genres, from Viennese songs and musicals to hip-hop.

Cultural program at a glance

#wienliebe aims to provide a stage for the capital’s many craftspeople and agricultural businesses to present their work and products to a large audience. In cooperation with the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, exhibitors present themselves at several stands on Rathausplatz, where visitors can find all kinds of handmade products, from jewelry to textile work or artistically crafted candles.

In the neighboring Rathauspark, guests can stroll through a food market with a selection of vegetables, fruit, and meat cultivated and processed within Vienna’s city limits.
