Why do so many people skip breakfast? The main reason is to save calories, followed by the feeling of still being full from the previous evening or the conscious adherence to an intermittent fasting program until midday. Others simply have no appetite in the morning. But it’s not a good idea to skip breakfast. That’s why it’s time to start your day with a good breakfast!
When should you have breakfast?
Eating breakfast in a hurry at 7:00 a.m. is unnecessary while you’re getting the kids ready for school or are stressed out. But between 7:00 and 10:00, you should take your time and leisure for breakfast. You don’t need more than 15 minutes to sit comfortably and quietly and enjoy a high-quality breakfast. We should really treat ourselves to this.
If you are one of those people who have no appetite in the morning, try it step by step and give breakfast a chance. It doesn’t have to be a lot. A banana or a piece of bread is enough. Our body needs carbohydrates, especially in the morning, as our body’s stores are empty. Carbohydrates are the most important fuel for the muscles and the brain; without them, the brain can’t get going. However, proteins and good fats in the morning are also essential, as they stimulate fat and carbohydrate metabolism. This forms the basis for a productive day, as the body can optimally utilize our food.
Chronobiology – eating according to the clock
The results regarding the day’s first meal are surprisingly consistent with the recommendations of chronobiologists. Chronobiology is the science of the temporal organization of living beings and investigates the influence of biological rhythms on the organism. Chronobiology recognizes many rhythms, one of which is the hunger rhythm. According to science, every organ has its own schedule. Digestion, for example, only works particularly effectively at certain times because this is when the body has prepared the digestive organs.
Eating at other times makes you more likely to gain weight. Between eight and ten o’clock in the morning, the body ramps up and needs a lot of energy, which breakfast provides. This is because the body reaches its mental and physical peak between ten and twelve o’clock. Around midday, the body develops the greatest hunger. The digestive organs are ready, and the bile produces digestive juices to process fats and carbohydrates well. The liver and pancreas are also active between 6 and 8 p.m., although they are more restrained. The body takes three times as long to break down carbohydrates in the evening as at breakfast.
My recommendations for a healthy breakfast
Make your breakfast taste good. Eat breakfast without regrets and until you are comfortably full. Choose high-quality cereals, a good source of protein, fruit, and/or vegetables. However, eating a lot of breakfast in the morning is also not beneficial without feeling hungry. Eat enough breakfast so that you feel sufficiently nourished. The main meal can also be your lunch.
