A healthy and balanced breakfast is particularly important for a good start to the day. Read on to find out which six foods you should avoid eating in the morning.
Breakfast is not called the most important meal of the day for nothing: After all, what we eat in the morning provides the energy base for everything that follows.
It is therefore very important to do something good for your body early in the morning. There are, of course, many healthy options to start the day. Experts recommend a varied meal with whole grains, fruit, vegetables and protein.
Wheat flour and white bread
Bread rolls and toast are among the standard foods on the breakfast table. But no matter how healthy the topping, if the bread is made from wheat flour, your body will have a less good start to the day.
After all, products made from wheat have a high glycemic index, which leads to a rapid rise in blood sugar. This means that you will probably feel tired again just a few hours after your first meal, as soon as your blood sugar level drops.
It is therefore better to switch to whole grain products. These also keep you full for longer.
Sugary cereals and muesli
You probably already know that colorful crispy rings or chocolate flakes are not necessarily healthy. However, even the alternatives advertised as healthy are often quite high in sugar.
It is therefore particularly important to take a close look at the ingredients. Choose a product that contains less sugar and more fiber. More than ten grams of sugar per serving is definitely too much.
As for fiber, there should be at least five grams, as it slows down your digestion for steadier energy levels.
Skimmed yoghurt with fruit
Although it sounds pretty healthy at first glance, it’s also one of the breakfast pitfalls.
Even though yoghurt with fruit is of course still a better choice than toast with chocolate spread, this option also contains a lot of sugar, which the body often burns off quickly and converts into energy.
In addition, the lack of fat in yoghurt means that you will soon feel hungry again. If you want to have yoghurt for breakfast, you should therefore choose the higher-fat Greek version and ideally add some healthy (low-sugar) wholemeal muesli.
Juices and smoothies
For many people, breakfast includes a glass of orange juice. However, it is better to eat the fruit in its natural form, as it still contains the important fiber that is missing in the drink.
Natural juices or smoothies also contain a lot of calories and sugar. Especially if your breakfast only consists of a smoothie, this will not be enough for your body; it needs protein and fiber, which a smoothie or juice cannot provide. As the day progresses, you will feel tired and want to eat more.
