Scientists have investigated how long one should ideally be away in order to take full advantage of a holiday.

Do we need a vacation?

And how long should a vacation last? And apart from the ideal length, what factors determine the degree of “energy and efficiency” that we take to work after vacation? In fact, there is an ideal holiday length when it comes to a Finnish study. A study by the University of Tampere in Finland shows that it is best to take 7 to 11 days of vacation to take full advantage of a vacation. Eight days is the perfect time to reach a maximum of relaxation without getting bored or getting home pain. The positive effects of a breakdown start on the first day, but scientists suspect it will take up to the eighth day before people can completely shake off their responsibilities and work stress. After the eighth day, the positive feelings decrease, and after the eleventh day, they rapidly decline.

But in order for a vacation to really do something, there are some things you can do to really turn it off. These include leaving the work equipment at home and setting up an automatic absence note that reminds you not to retrieve your emails. Other tricks to reduce holiday stress and relax are to plan your trip in advance to increase anticipation and travel with people you like.
In addition, it is recommended to take several shorter holidays a year instead of taking a long vacation every few years. Short breaks, such as the weekend, would not be enough to take advantage of the benefits of a break, as the boundaries between work and private life are increasingly shifting, and workers are working longer and more and more, and part of the work is taken with them during the weekend. For a smoother return to everyday life after the holiday, it is best to plan two more days after the return to come home in peace and mentally adjust to work.
