More people urinate in swimming pools than you might think, and a study shows why you should avoid them in the future.
Instead of going to the toilet, some bathers empty their bladders in the pool. However, this should never be done, not only because of the disgust factor but also for the sake of your health.

Scientists from China Agricultural University in Beijing and Purdue University in Indiana have discovered why peeing in the pool can be dangerous. Their study was published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology.
Respiratory tract, eyes, and skin affected
The experts discovered that when chlorine and uric acid are mixed, so-called “volatile disinfection by-products” such as trichloramine are formed. This chemical compound can damage the respiratory tract and cause irritation to the eyes and skin.
Chlorcyan, a substance that was used as a chemical warfare agent in the past, is also formed in the process. Although the quantities of these undesirable by-products are tiny, they still enter the body.

The American Chemical Society has discovered that 30 to 80 milliliters of urine per person are in every swimming pool. According to the experts, the disinfection by-products created by urine and chlorine are also responsible for the typical swimming pool odor.
It is, therefore, advisable to stop swimming, go to the toilet, and shower thoroughly before swimming.
