Defrosting the freezer compartment
The freezer is one of the biggest power guzzlers in the household. Therefore, it offers great potential for saving electricity while on vacation. It is best to use up all frozen food before longer trips and use your vacation to switch off the fridge and defrost the freezer compartment. An ice layer of just one centimeter in the freezer compartment can increase electricity consumption by up to 15 percent, so defrosting can save you a lot of money. Regular defrosting also extends the life of the appliance.
Turn off the heating and boiler
You can also give your boiler and heating a break during a long summer vacation. Keeping the water unnecessarily warm costs a lot of energy and is unnecessary during this time anyway. You can prevent legionella risk by draining about ten liters from all taps after your return before the water is used again. This is enough to replace the stale water in the pipes.

Disconnect electronic devices from the mains
