The Philippine Embassy in Vienna recently hosted a delightful and heartwarming breakfast event on August 18, 2024, at the Philippine Ambassador’s residence. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions of Filipinos and Filipino-Austrians working in Vienna’s foreign diplomatic missions and households.
This event is a testament to the Philippine government’s commitment to nurturing a strong global Filipino community and extending support to its citizens residing abroad. Ambassador Evangelina A. Bernas graced the gathering and delivered a heartfelt message recognizing Filipinos’ pivotal role in the success of foreign diplomatic missions. Ambassador Bernas emphasized the high regard in which Filipino staff are held by various ambassadors, often crediting their dedication and professionalism as essential support pillars.
She eloquently expressed, “Lahat ng mga Ambassadors na nakilala ko sinasabi nila, ‘Without our Filipino staff, we will fall apart.’ Dahil sa inyo, magaan agad ang loob ng mga ambassador sa Philippine embassy.”
This sentiment underscores Filipino personnel’s significant impact and positive impression on their diplomatic counterparts.
The event was also an opportunity to introduce and acknowledge the Philippine Embassy officers and staff in attendance. Special recognition was given to former Philippine Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe Natividad, whose exemplary leadership and noteworthy contributions as Secretary of the Policy-Making Organs (PMO) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have brought honour and pride to the Philippines on the international stage. Many of the guests in attendance were long-time residents of Austria, with more than 20 years of service in diplomatic missions. They expressed deep gratitude for being recognized and honoured in such a meaningful way for the first time in Vienna. The event served as a celebration of their accomplishments and a platform to strengthen bonds within the Filipino community and foster a sense of unity and camaraderie among those working tirelessly in foreign diplomacy.
