The magazine “Condé Nast Traveller” has created a big surprise with its new reader poll: Austria is in first place for the first time.
As part of its annual “Readers’ Choice Awards,” the travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller recently determined the friendliest countries in Europe. The first-placed country was surprising in many places.
“With an impressive debut on our list, Austria dethrones last year’s winner, Ireland, and is voted the friendliest country in Europe by our readers,” says the Condé Nast Traveler website.
As a result, the magazine explains the Austrian attitude to life as the reason for the friendliness of the Austrians. According to the magazine, “the locals (not only) deeply appreciate the beauty of their country”, they also “wholeheartedly” invite others to enjoy it.
Austria received 93.88 out of 100 points for this extraordinary friendliness, earning it the title of “Friendliest Country in Europe 2024”.
Last year’s winner,, Ireland, known for the “notoriously cheerful spirit” of its inhabitants, took second place this year, followed by Croatia. Austria’s neighbor Germany is completely absent from the top ten friendliest countries in Europe, although its capital, Berlin, even reached fifth place in the ranking of Europe’s friendliest cities.
