Since Wednesday, the recall of half-litre bottles of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, and MezzoMix in Austria has enormous dimensions. As the Ö1-Morgenjournal reported on Thursday, 28 million bottles are affected.
Alexander Hengl from the Vienna Market Office spoke of what is probably the biggest recall ever in Austria. “The cooperation with Coca-Cola is going very well,” Hengl told APA.
Strainer is broken
According to the Morgenjournal, a sieve may have broken during the filling process, so small pieces of metal could be in a limited number of 0.5-litre PET bottles. According to Hengl, however, no case has yet been reported of anyone being injured as a result.

The recall affects lemonade varieties of the 500-millilitre brand: Coca-Cola (Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Coca-Cola Zero Lemon, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine, Coca-Cola Light), Fanta (Fanta Orange, Fanta Orange Zero, Fanta Lemon Zero, Fanta Exotic Zero), Sprite (Sprite, Sprite Zero) and MezzoMix with a best-before date of 04.02.2025 to 12.04.2025 and the coding “WP” below the date. “We advise against consuming the potentially affected products due to a possible health risk,” the company said on Wednesday. Coca-Cola brings 14 million of these bottles onto the Austrian market every month.
