The last days of the year bring mild weather and sunshine to Austria. Temperatures of up to ten degrees are also forecast for New Year’s Eve.
The end of the year will bring Austrians sunshine and milder temperatures as the days go by. According to the Geosphere Austria forecast, it is set to reach up to ten degrees on New Year’s Eve and even up to twelve degrees next Sunday. However, it will primarily remain cold—or rather, icy—in the morning.
Year-end brings sunshine and milder temperatures
The details: On Friday, there will initially be isolated patches of shallow fog, especially in the western Danube valley. However, these will clear quickly during the course of the morning. As a result, the sun will often shine from an almost cloudless sky. The wind will be weak, mainly from the northwest to the east. In the morning, temperatures will be between minus twelve and zero degrees, with up to minus 18 degrees possible in the Alps. By the afternoon, temperatures will rise to minus four to plus eight degrees, with the mildest temperatures at medium altitudes.
On Saturday, a few patches of fog will persist in places until the morning, especially along and north of the Danube and in basin areas. Away from the fog, sunshine will predominate, with only harmless thin clouds in the sky. The wind will blow weakly from variable directions. Early temperatures will be between minus eleven and minus one degree; Alpine valleys will be colder, with temperatures as low as minus 17. Afternoon temperatures will range between minus three and plus eight degrees, again with the highest values at medium altitudes.
On New Year’s Eve, sunny throughout and up to ten degrees possible
Nothing new on Sunday: At first, local patches of fog and high fog will persist over the lowlands, valleys, and basins. However, these will usually clear quickly. This means that the sun will shine widely as the day progresses. From minus ten to zero degrees in the morning, temperatures will rise to one to twelve degrees depending on the sunshine, again with the highest values at medium altitudes.
Monday will be similar: in the north and east along the Danube and over the lowlands of the Waldviertel and Weinviertel, fog and high fog of varying consistency will initially persist. As the day progresses, however, the sun will increasingly prevail. In the west and south, the sun will shine right from the start of the day. The wind will blow mostly weakly from southeast to west in the Mostviertel, also partly briskly from west to northwest. Early temperatures will range from minus ten to plus three degrees, with daily highs of one to nine degrees.
And New Year’s Eve on Tuesday will also bring no change in the weather: apart from fog and patches of high fog of varying consistency in the Danube Valley, the Waldviertel and Weinviertel, the Vienna Basin, and the eastern lowlands, the day will be sunny everywhere else. The wind will be mainly light to moderate from southerly to westerly directions. It will be between minus ten and minus one degree in the morning and between four and ten degrees during the day.
