Vienna, Austria—21 January 2025 – The Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Vienna, in collaboration with the VIC Chinese Culture Club, hosted an unforgettable celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year and Spring Festival at the Vienna International Centre. The event marked the beginning of the Year of the Snake, highlighting wisdom, resilience, and transformation themes.
The program officially started with the welcome remarks of Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of China. The event was graced by distinguished speakers, most notably Executive Secretary Robert Floyd of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and Director General Gerd Mueller. Each shared goodwill message emphasized the importance of cultural understanding and cooperation as central to global peace and progress.
A series of beautiful performances captivated the audience, showcasing China’s rich cultural heritage. The United Nations Choir, led by its artistic director and conductor, Daniel Cano, delivered a heartwarming rendition of the beloved Chinese folk song “Mo Li Hua” (Jasmine Flower), followed by an inspiring performance of “We Are the World,” symbolizing unity and shared humanity.
The celebration continued with a sumptuous buffet featuring traditional Chinese dishes, delighting attendees with the diverse flavors of Chinese cuisine. The vibrant decorations and festive atmosphere brought the spirit of the Spring Festival to life, fostering a sense of community among participants from around the world.
This annual celebration serves as a testament to the United Nations’ commitment to cultural exchange and inclusivity. It reminds us that traditions like the Lunar New Year bring people together to honor diversity, promote understanding, and inspire hope for the future.
