While the sun will prevail at times in many regions, fog, patches of high fog, and dense clouds will cloud the sky. Precipitation is to be expected, especially in the western parts of the country. Temperatures will remain in the wintry range and vary depending on the region.
Sunday will be divided into two parts
Today, Sunday, in the early hours of the morning, there will be areas of fog and high fog in the lower-lying regions of the north, east, and south. However, these will usually clear at least temporarily in the morning. Away from the fog patches and from the Kitzbühel Alps to the Mariazell area, the weather will be friendly all day, with only high, thin clouds interspersed.
The weather situation is different in the west and south of the country: Here, dense patches of cloud keep moving through and pushing in front of the sun. The southerly Föhn wind will increasingly lose strength in the morning hours, mainly blowing weakly from south to east. However, it will occasionally freshen up moderately on the eastern edge of the Alps. Temperatures in the morning will range between a frosty minus 7 degrees and a mild plus 2 degrees. During the course of the day, highs of between 2 and 10 degrees will be reached.
Precipitation at the start of the week
Monday will begin with a mix of sun and cloud. The best chances of sunny spells are between Salzburg and northern Burgenland. In Vorarlberg and Carinthia, however, it will remain mostly cloudy, and the sun will only appear briefly.
Precipitation will set in during the afternoon in this region. The snow line will be between 900 and 1600 meters above sea level, so rain is more likely in the lower areas, while higher areas can expect snowfall. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from easterly directions in the Danube region and the Waldviertel but will remain rather weak in other areas. Temperatures in the morning will range from minus 7 to minus 1 degrees, while daytime highs will be between 3 and 9 degrees.
Tuesday, with rain and snow
Tuesday will start with dense clouds moving in from the southwest, bringing heavy precipitation in places. The snow line will be staggered from west to east between 1300 meters above sea level and valley level, so fresh snow will be expected in higher regions, while rain will fall at lower altitudes. The wind will freshen up moderately to briskly, especially in the Danube region and the Waldviertel, while the wind will remain weak in the rest of the country. Temperatures in the morning will be between minus 7 and 0 degrees, while daytime highs will be between 2 and 7 degrees.
