Saturday: Lots of sunshine, foehn and still mild
The calm and friendly spring weather will continue on Saturday. Individual patches of fog that form in the valleys or over lakes in the morning hours will dissipate quickly. After that, sunshine will predominate. Initially, there will be at most thin veil clouds in the sky, which will hardly cloud the sunlight. However, due to the Sahara dust, the atmosphere may again appear slightly hazy.
In the course of the afternoon, the clouds will increase somewhat in the south and east. Nevertheless, it will remain largely dry. The wind will blow moderately from southerly directions, along the northern side of the Alps it will remain slightly foehn-like. In the east, the south-easterly wind may freshen up again in phases. Maximum temperatures will be between 12 and 19 degrees.
Sunday: Sunny, windy and unusually warm for early March
Sunday will also show its sunny side. The sun will dominate throughout Austria, with some higher cloud fields joining in during the day. These will mostly be thin, but may thicken locally. No rain is expected.
The foehn wind from the south will strengthen noticeably as the day progresses. It may become stormy, especially in predestined foehn valleys and on the mountains. Local gusts of around 50 km/h are possible in the valleys. Temperatures will rise to 15 to 23 degrees with the strong March sun and the foehn influence. At 2,000 meters above sea level, temperatures will reach around 4 degrees – also very mild for the time of year.
Outlook for Monday: More clouds, first showers
At the beginning of the week, slightly more humid air will move in from the west and southwest. As a result, the sun will only appear occasionally on Monday, with more clouds spreading, especially from Lake Constance to Carinthia. The first rain showers are also to be expected in these regions. The snow line will be around 1,500 meters.
The foehn wind from the south will continue to blow strongly, especially in the typical foehn valleys. Temperatures will continue to reach a mild 13 to 21 degrees, with the warmest temperatures in the east. In the regions with more rain, such as East Tyrol, temperatures will reach a maximum of around 10 degrees.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Changeable, cooler
The weather will become more changeable in the middle of the week. Sunshine and clouds will alternate, with rain showers moving in from the southwest. The sun will appear from time to time and longer sunny spells are possible, especially in the east. The wind will weaken considerably, only in foehn valleys can it still be slightly foehny at times. Temperatures will drop slightly, but it will remain mild with highs between 10 and 18 degrees. As usual, the highest values will be reached in the north-east of Austria.
