More and more women are toying with the idea of traveling solo. A trend that Tui, for example, the world’s largest tour operator, has taken into account and published an index specifically tailored to the needs of women traveling alone.
This “Solo Female Travel Index” shows that some destinations are better and others are less suitable for solo trips. An analysis quoted by Time Out follows a similar line. It comes from Dipndive. From the weather to the friendliness of the locals, hotel and living costs, the number of free attractions and safety, they have summarized the factors that make a city worth visiting for women travelling alone.
Helsinki is at the top of the ranking for women traveling alone. The Finnish capital ranks ahead of Zagreb and Berlin. With a “friendliness score” of 90, Helsinki is also the second-friendliest place and has a decent number of free attractions to offer to compensate for the slightly higher cost of living and hotel prices, it says. Vienna is still in 8th place. This means that the capital city comes off almost as well as the country: Austria was ranked ninth in the Solo Female Travel Index.
