This is accompanied by rain, thunderstorms, and even snow, which is returning in wintry fashion.

From the first hot day to snow and rain
Today in Vienna, there is bright sunshine and temperatures around 27°C. In other parts of the country, particularly in the east and south, summery temperatures of between 28 and 30°C are also being reached. However, these unusually warm conditions for the beginning of May will be short-lived.

Plummeting temperatures from Saturday
From Saturday, a cold front will move across Austria from the north. This will bring a significant drop in temperatures and increased precipitation and thunderstorms. Before the showers, it will be 23 to 31°C again, with the warmest temperatures this time in the east. From Sunday onwards, there will be a significant drop in temperatures. In Vienna, the highs will drop to around 22°C, accompanied by occasional rain and drizzle in the morning; on Monday, they will fall further to 13°C. Temperatures in other regions will be between 16 and 23°C, in the south still up to around 25°C. The lows will drop to 7°C. Snowfall is to be expected at higher altitudes, especially in the Alps.

Regional effects
Alpine regions: Starting on Sunday, snowfall is expected at higher altitudes in the Alps. The snow line will drop to up to 1,200 meters, so fresh snow is to be expected in ski resorts such as Obertauern or the Arlberg.
Western Austria: In Vorarlberg and Tyrol, a significant drop in temperature and intense precipitation are expected. Temperatures will drop to daily highs between 6 and 12 °C.
Eastern Austria: Vienna and Lower Austria will initially remain milder, but a drop in temperatures and increased precipitation are also expected here from Sunday.
The cooling will continue on Monday. In Vienna, temperatures will reach a maximum of 13°C, with showers in the morning and considerable cloud cover. A maximum of 7 to 17°C is expected in the rest of the country. At higher altitudes, such as in Ischgl, Tyrol, temperatures will be between 0°C and 7°C, with occasional rain showers. Temperatures will also remain cool on Tuesday, with highs of 9 to 16°C. In alpine regions, temperatures will be even lower, with values around 2°C to 3°C and occasional showers.

Possible upswing in the middle of the week
The weather situation in Austria is expected to be mixed on Wednesday. While it will remain mainly cloudy in the Alps and there could be repeated showers or short downpours during the day, the weather in the rest of the country will be somewhat friendlier. As things stand, it will likely remain mostly dry here, with intermittent clearing and sunny spells. A brisk wind from the east will accompany this. Temperatures will range from a cool 10 to a mild 18 degrees, depending on the region.
