In January 2025, the city of Vienna increased parking fees to €1.30 per half hour. Parking tickets purchased in Vienna before January 1 of this year remain valid for the time being.

However, this will soon come to an end, as the transition period is set to conclude on June 30, 2025. This means that old short-term parking tickets will no longer be valid and may not be used.

It is not possible to exchange or return old parking tickets. The ÖAMTC automobile club has criticized this several times in the past.

Anyone who still has old parking tickets “will be stuck with them,” according to Matthias Nagler, transport expert at the mobility club, in a press release. The ÖAMTC expert is appealing to the new Vienna city government to provide an exchange option for an additional fee.

Appeal to parking enforcement

The ÖAMTC also appeals to parking enforcement to exercise a little tolerance: “The difference in price for half an hour of parking is just five cents. It would therefore be desirable if, given the small difference, parking enforcement officers could issue warnings instead of immediately imposing a fine of at least 36 euros, at least in the first few weeks,” said Nagler.
