Anyone who needs a new passport should obtain it as soon as possible in the next few days. On July 1, federal fees will be retroactively adjusted. Since the last increase occurred over ten years ago, the growth is expected to be around 44 per cent. This means that a passport, which previously cost €75.90, will cost around €109 starting in July.

Driving licenses will also become more expensive. Currently, the cost is €60.50 (excluding medical and examination fees). From July, it will be around €87. The cost of a credit card-style driving license will increase from €49.50 to around €71.

Identity cards and name changes are also affected. The e-card fee will rise from €13.80 to €25. Vehicle registration will increase to €178. Citizenship will also become significantly more expensive, with a fee of €1,448 for granting citizenship and €163 for the application. As of July, a cost of 175 euros will be required for a firearms license, and 110 euros for a firearms possession card.

The cost of getting married will rise from 50 to 74 euros. Court fees (and thus divorces) have already become more expensive since April.

Smoking is also becoming more expensive

The main reason for this is the increase in the tobacco tax. Cigarette giant Philip Morris announced at the end of May that the prices for most of its brands would rise by another ten cents per pack in July. Now Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is following suit. Here, too, there will be a price increase of around ten cents for selected brands.

Train tickets

On July 1, commuters and students will once again have to dig deeper into their pockets: the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) is raising its prices. In the “Region” fare zone, which mainly affects Lower Austria and Burgenland, prices will rise by an average of 3 per cent. According to VOR, the increase is attributed to rising costs and the Consumer Price Index.

In August, the Klimaticket will also become significantly more expensive. Instead of 1,095 euros, passengers will then have to pay 1,300 euros.
