EU countries are coordinating their rules for travelers from areas with different incidences. There are no restrictions for fully vaccinated and recovered people.
EU countries have agreed to relax travel restrictions in a coordinated and gradual way. “With the start of summer, travel will be made easier for citizens – with only limited and proportionate travel restrictions, if any,” EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders announced Monday. For example, he said, it is envisaged that fully vaccinated and recovered people should not be subject to travel restrictions.
Corona traffic light will be reinstated
In addition, it is planned that people from regions with few infections can also travel without restrictions. Currently, from Austria, only the province of Salzburg is a green area according to the standards of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Travelers from orange areas (currently the rest of Austria) could be required to take a test, according to the EU Commission’s communication. Those coming from a red area could be subject to quarantine. The ECDC classification of areas into green, orange, red and dark red is based on the number of cases and the positive rate of tests.
14-day incidence decides
This means that an agreement reached on Friday has now been formally implemented. According to the agreement, regions will now only be designated as red corona risk areas, for example, if they have reported between 200 and 500 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days – or between 75 and 200 if the proportion of positive corona tests exceeds four percent. Previously, the lower limits had been 50 and 150, respectively. The thresholds for orange areas with a moderate risk of infection and green areas with a low risk of infection have also been adjusted accordingly.
