Fifty-five percent of iPhone users trust the manufacturer’s security measures. According to the study, this makes them more vulnerable to online scams.

US cybersecurity expert Malwarebytes has found that Apple iPhone users are more likely to fall victim to online scams and take greater internet risks.

A total of 1,300 adults from the US, UK, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland were surveyed for the study. According to Malwarebytes, the results show that iPhone users disclose more personal data online than Android users, use security software less often, and reuse passwords more frequently. At the same time, iPhone owners admitted to being victims of online fraud more often and shopping from unknown web providers.

“Too many iPhone users rely on the reputation of their iPhone when it comes to security, without taking basic measures to protect themselves. This makes them more vulnerable to scams and hidden threats,” says Michael Sherwood, VP of Product at Malwarebytes.

You can no longer rely on reputation when surfing the Internet, chatting, or doing online banking. “Cybercriminals know that mobile devices and their users are vulnerable to threats and scams. We need to be aware of this and question everything, from text messages and search results to email attachments and links,” says Sherwood.

Overall, iPhone users tend to trust the security measures built into their devices. 55 percent said so, compared to 50 percent of Android users. According to Malwarebytes in a press release, this explains both the difference in user behavior and the higher risk tolerance.
