The new tram line 12 is ready to go: construction is almost complete, and Wiener Linien is currently testing the 2.2-kilometer route in Leopoldstadt. The new line 12 is set to officially start operating this fall, with the exact date to be announced in mid-August.
The new line runs between Nordbahnstraße/Taborstraße and Hillerstraße. Two hundred thirty meters of it are even designed as environmentally friendly grass tracks. From Taborstraße, the 12 continues on the existing route of trams 33 and 5. In the future, the new line will directly connect Josefstadt, Alsergrund, Brigittenau, and Leopoldstadt, four districts, in one fell swoop.
The rapidly growing Nordbahnviertel district, in particular, is expected to benefit from the new connection. In the long term, the 12 tram will also run through the planned urban development area at Nordwestbahnhof, according to reports.
