Amstetten, Austria – Vincent Bueno, the acclaimed Filipino‑Austrian singer and performer, shines in the title role of the Uraufführung (world premiere) of Augustin – das Musical, currently running at the celebrated AVB Musical Sommer Amstetten through August 10, 2025.
A Role of Cultural Significance and Emotional Resonance
In this adaptation of the cult Hörspiel by Wolfgang Ambros, Joesi Prokopetz, and Manfred Tauchen, Vincent Bueno embodies the legendary 17th‑century Wiener Volkssänger Augustin—a man who famously survived a night in a pest grave to emerge as a symbol of optimism and urban folklore. As Augustin, Bueno brings humor, heart, and depth to a performance that unites historical storytelling with modern resonance.
Artistic Excellence Backed by Ambros Classics
The production features unforgettable hits by Austropop legend Wolfgang Ambros—such as “A Mensch mecht I bleib’n”, “Du verstehst mi net”, “Zwickt’s mi” and “Zentralfriedhof”—skillfully woven into the narrative by book writers Thomas Kahry and Christoph Weyers, with musical direction by Christian Frank and choreography by Natalie Holtom.
Cast, Creative Team, and Production Highlights
The show is directed by Alex Balga, produced by Christoph Heigl. It features a diverse ensemble, including Hannah Severin as Corinna and Carin Filipčić as Tod/Kolschitzky, alongside Matthias Trattner, Simon Stockinger, Alexandra Frankl, Franz Frickel, and others.
Since its July 17 premiere, demand has surged: originally planned for 15 shows, three additional performances were added due to exceptional ticket sales and public enthusiasm.

Vincent Bueno: Breaking Stereotypes and Building Bridges
Bueno’s casting in a quintessentially Viennese role symbolizes artistic progress. With Filipino heritage, he embraces this role as an opportunity to showcase diversity and inclusivity:
“Jetzt den Augustin spielen zu dürfen… Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund zu zeigen, dass man… auch eine weiße Rolle spielen kann,” he stated in interview (meinbezirk.at).
Critics praise his portrayal for balancing vulnerability and strength. In Heute.at, he is described as bringing the emotional journey of loss and hope to life, creating “Gänsehaut‑Momente” and a roller‑coaster of empathy and humor.
Critical and Public Acclaim
Press reviews and early audience feedback highlight the show’s emotional impact, clever staging, and musical richness. Kurier emphasizes the timely relevance of its message—resilience through laughter and music—even in uncertain times. Meanwhile, MeinBezirk underscores the production’s scale, energy, and Augustin’s journey from the grave to legend brought to life.
