Over the next few days, temperatures will rise sharply in many regions, accompanied by humid air and some severe thunderstorms.
Today, the heat will continue to rise, reaching 29 to 37 degrees. The highest temperatures are expected in the east. At 2000 meters above sea level, it will be around 20 degrees. In most regions, the sun will shine all day long. Only in the west will clouds roll in in the afternoon, accompanied by some Saharan dust (from North Africa). Rain showers and thunderstorms are also possible there, especially on the main Alpine ridge of Tyrol and Salzburg, in East Tyrol, and western and northern Carinthia. Individual downpours may be heavy. The wind will be moderate to brisk, mainly from the east to southeast.
Friday, Assumption Day: Heat continues
The heat will continue on the public holiday. Temperatures will reach 27 to 38 degrees from west to east. From Linz (Upper Austria), Liezen (Styria) and Villach (Carinthia) eastwards, it will remain sunny all day. In the western half of the country, it will also be sunny at first, with clouds forming later. Showers and thunderstorms will occur, especially in the mountains. In the evening, thunderstorms are likely in the Rhine Valley (Vorarlberg) and Lake Constance, which may bring heavy rain and hail in some places. The wind will be noticeable, especially near thunderstorms. At 2,000 meters above sea level, temperatures will be around 18 degrees.
Saturday: Humid with increasing risk of thunderstorms
Saturday will remain hot, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 36 degrees, with the highest values in the east. The weather will be changeable: partly sunny, partly cloudy. The first showers and thunderstorms will pass through the Lower Inn Valley (Tyrol), the Flachgau region (Salzburg), and the Inn Valley (Upper Austria) in the morning. During the day, the likelihood of thunderstorms will continue to increase across most of the country. Locally, there may be heavy rain and hail. The wind will pick up at times, blowing briskly from the west to the north.
Sunday: Changeable and continued thunderstorms
On Sunday, the air will remain humid, and it will be very hot again in the east. Maximum temperatures will range between 24 and 35 degrees. Variable cloud cover with sunny intervals. Showers or thunderstorms are possible in some areas in the morning, spreading to more and more regions in the afternoon. Some cells will bring heavy rain and hail in a short period. Away from thunderstorms, there will be a moderate wind from the northwest to northeast, with stronger gusts possible.
