Vienna—Summer isn’t over yet this year: the weather will definitely improve next week, and from Wednesday onwards it will also be hot in the east, Geosphere Austria promised in its weekly forecast on Sunday. Any small pockets of fog and high fog will clear up on Monday morning. In many places, the weather will be quite sunny overall. The maximum temperatures will climb to 20 to 25 degrees.

On Tuesday, there will be some fog or high fog in some valleys and basins, especially on the southern side of the Alps, and possibly harmless clouds in the middle to upper layers in the northeast. Otherwise, sunshine will generally prevail from the early morning onwards. In the afternoon, a few cumulus clouds will form over the mountains, but these are only likely to produce isolated, short rain showers: light winds and highs of 23 to 28 degrees.

30 degrees within reach

On the northern side of the Alps and in the north, a few cloud fields will temporarily arrive on Wednesday morning, with some rain possible in places. Apart from that, however, the sun will shine for the most part, and in the afternoon, more cumulus clouds will form, mainly over the mountains. Local thunderstorms are possible along the main Alpine ridge and south of it. The wind will be light to moderate, initially from the west, then from the east to south in the afternoon. Early temperatures will range from 8 to 17 degrees, with highs of 25 to 30 degrees.

Along and south of the main Alpine ridge from the Silvretta to the Carnic Alps, clouds will gather on Thursday and rain will gradually set in, which may be heavy at times. Elsewhere, the sun will continue to shine frequently at first. However, clouds will generally increase in the course of the afternoon, and heavy thunderstorms are possible in the evening, especially in the northern Alpine foothills and in the Mühlviertel and Waldviertel regions. It will remain dry and often sunny throughout the day in the east and southeast. Along the north side of the Alps and in the east and south, a brisk to strong south wind will pick up, with stormy south foehn winds blowing in the mountains. Early temperatures will range from 9 to 18 degrees, with daily highs mostly between 26 and 33 degrees. In the rainy west and southwest, it will remain cooler with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.

In the western half, some cloud fields will pass through from the start on Friday, and there will also be rain in places, especially in the far west and southwest. During the course of the day, the clouds will break up here and there at times, but rain showers and thunderstorms will become more frequent. It will remain sunny throughout in the east and southeast, with only harmless cloud fields passing through. The wind will still be quite brisk in the east and south, as well as in the mountains, blowing from the southeast to southwest. Early temperatures will range from 12 to 20 degrees, with daily highs from west to east ranging from 18 to 33 degrees.
