The meteorological summer ends on Sunday—until then, Austria will show its diverse side in terms of weather: thunderstorms, sunshine, and mild temperatures will alternate.
Weather forecast for Vienna
Sunday marks the end of the meteorological summer, and according to Thursday’s Geosphere forecast, its farewell will be quite changeable. From thunderstorms to sunshine, the repertoire also includes highs above 30 degrees Celsius at the beginning, before it is expected to continue somewhat milder from Tuesday onwards.
Friday with sun, thunderstorms, and wind
Friday will already start off varied: west of the Linz-Villach line, rain and partly thunderous showers are expected in the morning. Further east, there will be an interplay of sun and clouds, with a few thunderstorms and rain showers possible from late morning onwards. Locally, the thunderstorms may be accompanied by short periods of heavy rain and gusts of wind. Away from the thunderstorms, the wind will be light to moderate but brisk in the eastern half of the country, blowing from the south to the west. Temperatures will range from 11 to 20 degrees in the morning and from 19 to 30 degrees in the early afternoon from west to east.
Saturday will bring clouds, rain, and isolated thunderstorms
In the west, clouds will prevail on Saturday with regional rain, but by the afternoon it will be mostly dry and the clouds will gradually break up. In the rest of Austria, clouds and sunny spells will alternate, with a few rain showers and thunderstorms in the south. The wind will be mostly light to moderate, brisk in places in the east, blowing from the west to northwest. Early temperatures will range between 9 and 19 degrees, and afternoon temperatures between 17 and 26 degrees.
Sunny farewell to summer on Sunday
Sunday, the last day of meteorological summer, will start off bright and sunny with almost no clouds throughout Austria. A few cumulus clouds will form throughout the day, but they will remain harmless. The wind will be mostly light to moderate from various directions. After nine to 16 degrees in the morning, temperatures will rise to 23 to 29 degrees, with the highest temperatures in the Far East.
Weather change at the start of fall
At the start of meteorological fall on Monday, the next disturbance zone will approach from the west. It will bring some thick clouds, especially in the western half of the country. Rain showers will begin here in the early morning. In the eastern half, there will generally be few clouds and it will remain mostly dry. The wind will be moderate to brisk from the south to west, and after early temperatures of 10 to 17 degrees, the daily highs will rise from west to east to 19 to 31 degrees.
In the wake of the disturbance zone, an unstable and cool Tuesday is ahead. From early morning, dense clouds and rain showers will be widespread, and hardly any region will remain dry. However, the sun will also make an appearance from time to time. The wind will be light to moderate from the west, and after an initial 10 to 18 degrees, maximum temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees are expected.
