The weather will initially be dominated by rain and wind over the coming days. However, there will be a slight reversal in the trend later in the week, starting on Wednesday. Milder temperatures and a little more sunshine are on the way, as Geosphere Austria announced in its latest forecast on Sunday.

Week starts cloudy and rainy

On Monday, the weather in the west, north, and east will be cloudy and rainy. The main precipitation will be along the northern side of the Alps, where there will be heavy rain at times. The snow line will rise from 1,300 meters to 2,000 meters above sea level during the day. In the northeast, there will be chances of sunny spells in the afternoon. South of the main Alpine ridge, it will remain predominantly dry, with more frequent sunshine. The wind will be moderate to brisk, and strong in exposed areas, blowing from the west to the north. Early temperatures will range between one and nine degrees, while daytime highs will reach between nine and 15 degrees.

On Tuesday, with a northern high-altitude flow and a warm front on the northern side of the Alps and in the north, it will remain cloudy throughout, with frequent rain, which will be persistent and intense in some areas. In the east, there will be isolated showers at most, and the sun will also shine at times. The south will generally enjoy favorable weather, but clouds will also pass through here at times. The wind will be moderate to brisk from the northwest to north in the east and southeast as well as in the mountains. Early temperatures will range between three and ten degrees, and daytime highs will be between 12 and 18 degrees.

On Wednesday, residual clouds will linger in many places, especially in the north and on the northern side of the Alps, and local showers are also possible. However, sunny weather will set in at times during the day, even if a few high clouds roll in during the afternoon. Further east and south, sunny weather will generally prevail, with only a few harmless cumulus clouds appearing. The wind will still be moderate from the northwest in the east, but otherwise it will be light. Early temperatures will range between two and nine degrees, while daytime highs will reach between 14 and 19 degrees.

On Thursday, a weak disturbance will move through from the north during the day. This will bring some dense clouds and local rain showers, especially in the northern half of the country. The sun will only appear intermittently, somewhat more frequently in the south. The wind will be light. Early temperatures will range between five and ten degrees, and daytime highs will be between 14 and 19 degrees.

On Friday, the sun will shine in most regions. However, there will be more clouds at times in the north and along the northern side of the Alps, and local rain showers are also possible here. The wind will be moderate to brisk from the west in the north and east, but otherwise it will be relatively calm. Early temperatures will range between three and eleven degrees, while daytime highs will reach between 13 and 20 degrees.
